Convertible notebooks are now getting bigger and bigger. Latest 15 inch laptop which flips into a tablet is the HP Envy x360 15t Touch that joins the similar systems from Toshiba and Lenovo. The HP laptop features Intel Core i5 processor as well as 1080p touch screen. This is indeed another two in one hybrid system which is here to be in competition with other similar laptops like those from Lenovo and Toshiba. Buying a notebook can be expensive so we recommend high acceptance loans.

As I was using the laptop, I noticed a lot of things in it which I will be sharing with you all in this review below. Here I review the display, design, battery life, audio, webcam, keyboard, ports, overall performance and other points so that the potential buyers can have complete knowledge about the laptop.

Design

First comes the design of the HP Envy x360 15t Touch that combines super construction as well as features of Envy range with convertible hybrid designing which blends a tablet and a laptop in one system.

When I looked at the laptop, it looked like any other ordinary notebook but when I took a closer inspection of the same, its heavy duty hinges hinted at x360’s potential. Like smaller notebooks, this Envy 15 inch laptop comes with a screen that can rotate easily to set up and use the tablet version.

The Envy device came clad in silver to me. The glossy HP logo adorns plastic lid and from the inside, there is aluminium palm rest which carries silvery theme, having support of silver plastic bottom. Just the plastic, black bezel surrounding the display breaks its silvery pattern. Overall, I liked the design, it is simple and decent.

Features

HP Envy x360 is controlled by the AMD Ryzen 5000 series, explicitly a Ryzen 9 5900x or Ryzen 7 5800U. These aren’t only AMD’s most recent processors, the new Zen 3 technology behind them is preferable and more productive than the previous Zen 2 technology. If you go with ryzen compatible motherboards then you will get maximum performance of laptop.

Talking about the features that I saw in the laptop is that it is equipped with 3 USB ports i.e. 1 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 along with SD card reader, headset jack and HDMI port. As for networking, the device has Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11n Wi Fi as well as Gigabit Ethernet. An extra feature is the Miracast i.e. the wireless media stream protocol that is just like Wi Di which lets you to beam the HD content to Miracast enabled HDTV and that too without any need of the HDMI cable.

Some pros and cons of the Envy x360 15t include the following:

PROS:
  • Attractive design
  • Convertible multi mode features
  • Laptop to tablet conversion
  • Extra wide control zone trackpad
  • Beats audio
  • Backlit keyboard

CONS:
  • Short battery life
  • Average performance
  • Display with visible gridlines
  • Narrow view angles

Durability and Security

This notebook measures at 15.11 x 10.18 x 0.93 inches and has a weight of 5.2 pounds which is heavy and thus puts a question mark on portability and durability. Because of its hinges, the screen can rotate and can be used for tablet mode. The hybrid notebook is made using silver plastic and the hinges are strong.

Battery life and display are average and due to this, the laptop is not much portable. You will not be able to use it for longer durations as you will need to connect it to the charger often.

Keyboard

The HP Envy laptop features full keyboard along with full number pad and backlight. The keyboard is good and I enjoyed my speed while typing fast on the keyboard. Its keys are nice and white backlights looks great.

The matching silver finish covers the island style keys of the keyboard. Although the keys have travel distance on shorter side but it is not a hassle. Actuation weight for the key presses is standard. What I would say that the only problem I had was that it took a while for me to get used to laying the wrists over its wide touchpad when typing. But that is not something which will make the keyboard sound bad or poor.

Display and Audio

Its 15.6 inches screen has 1920 x 1080 resolution that provides 10 finger touch tracking. Even the colours were dull and there is visible grid of lines on display from touch sensor. The quality of the display is outdone by sound from Beats Audio speakers that provide great volume and there is more bass that you will feel from a notebook.

As for the colour reproduction test, the laptop hit 82.9 percent sRGB clour spectrum and this is more than an average of 76.5 percent. The display also has narrow view angles, only 20 degrees down or up and can wash out the images. This seems to be a big misstep for any convertible.

Its Beats Audio software permits the users to customize their EQ and offers presets for the Beats company headphones. Find more information on the best headphones under 300. You will need to create your settings for the games as just the presets are voice, 3D movie and music. The software has these 3 presets which mean that for the games, you will need to create a separate profile.

Ports and Webcam

Envy x360’s complete range of ports lines sides of the laptop. Port variety is there with 2 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI port and LAN port. Also, the combined stereo jack serves to be the adjustment of increasing demand and popularity of the Smartphones. It even prevents use of high end headset with 2 connectors. Its ports are situated at sides but there are no ports at back or front.

Photos from HP True Vision HD Webcam looked blurry and soft with heavy vignette i.e. lak of brightness around edges.

Performance

This HP notebook has 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 4210U CPU, 500 GB, 8GB RAM as well as 5400 rpm of hard drive. This simply means that the laptop has very less difficulty as far as multitasking is concerned even when that includes having 12-14 tabs opened up in Chrome, downloading some game and watching a video, all at same time.

Performance wise, the system is good enough to tackle all your daily works like watching movie or video, surfing the net etc.

Graphics

The Envy x360 replies on integrated Intel HD graphics 4400. This way, you can enjoy games and have fun in more casual fare such as League of Legends and Hearthstone.

Battery Life

I would say that the biggest shortcoming of the HP Envy x360 15t Touch is its battery or short endurance. On battery test, the notebook was only able to perform for 4 hours 14 minutes which is in fact a very poor time.

Software and Warranty

The Envy x360 is there with 1 year limited hardware warranty as well as suite of HP connected software. The users can select extending the warranty to 3 years or more by paying some extra cost. HP software suite of HP Connected Drive, HP Connected Music and HP Connected Photo are beneficial but hiding the point that they are mere portals to services like Facebook, Snapfish, TuneIn radio and Beats Music.

Verdict

HP Envy x360 15t is indeed a nice laptop but I would say that it is a mediocre tablet. It feels as if HP is still figuring it out the hybrid equation as there is short battery life, odd asymmetrical designing and lacklustre screen. So in all it is a very average notebook.
